Ураховуючи суттєві зміни у підходах до профілактики раку шийки матки (РШМ), які відбуваються протягом останніх десятиріч, у статті розглянуто поняття первинного, вторинного та третинного рівнів профілактичних заходів щодо онкологічної патології загалом, сутності та мети скринінгових досліджень, вимог до діагностичних тестів, які можуть використовуватись у якості скринінгових.

Детально висвітлені сучасні підходи до цервікального скринінгу як ключової складової вторинної профілактики РШМ, особливостей існуючих скринінгових програм, заснованих на первинному визначенні високоонкогенних штамів вірусу папіломи людини ізольовано та у поєднанні з цитологічним дослідженням.
