Практикуючі акушери-гінекологи звикли розглядати здоров’я жінки з позицій підтримки її репродуктивного потенціалу, допомоги у його реалізації. Куди менше уваги приділялося стану справ після згасання власне репродуктивної функції. Цілком обґрунтовані зміни в організмі у період так званого менопаузального переходу довгий час залишалися поза фокусом спеціаліста, і вирішення проблем, з якими стикалася жінка, лягало на плечі її самої та її родини. Тим не менше світова тенденція до постаріння населення та зростаюча роль професійної, культурної активності цих жінок вимагають поглиблених знань про даний процес і віднайдення ефективних терапевтичних заходів для ліквідації небажаних проявів менопаузальної перебудови організму задля покращання якості життя жінок. Менопаузальна гормональна терапія у ході досліджень отримує міцну доказову базу щодо ефективності її застосування, однак фахівцями часто недооцінюються чи переоцінюються її можливості у конкретних клінічних випадках. Тому знання про основні напрями застосування методу, а також перестороги та протипоказання до його використання повинні бути добре відомими лікарю та доступно пояснені пацієнтці.
