Ібупрофен, поряд з парацетамолом, є препаратом вибору для зниження температури та знеболювання в дітей і відноситься до ліків, які в більшості країн світу, зокрема в Україні, продаються без рецепта та можуть застосовуватися пацієнтами вдома без огляду лікаря. Зрозуміло, що таке застосування передбачає наявність значних переваг над потенційними ризиками. Зокрема, важливою умовою «домашнього» використання медичних препаратів є швидкість дії, відсутність тяжких побічних ефектів, низька токсичність, добра сумісність з іншими ліками та широкий терапевтичний коридор. Ібупрофен відповідає цим основним вимогам, тому і належить до найчастіше застосовуваних молекул у педіатричній практиці.
Дискутабельним залишається питання самостійного застосування препаратів на основі даної молекули батьками для зниження температури в дітей при гострих респіраторних захворюваннях, адже існує думка щодо негативного впливу зниження температури на імунний захист хворого. На початку пандемії COVID-19 взагалі піднімалося питання про негативний вплив зниження температури ібупрофеном на прогноз захворювання, що викликає вірус Sars-Cov-2.
Саме питанням оцінки співвідношення «користь — ризик» для молекули ібупрофену присвячений цей літературний огляд.
Тривалий досвід широкого застосування, чисельні дослідження, систематичні огляди та метааналізи доводять безпечність, ефективність і добру переносимість ібупрофену порівняно з іншими, у тому числі безрецептурними анальгетиками. Поточні дослідження показують, що його застосування може виходити далеко за межі звичного купірування болю та лихоманки при поширених клінічних ситуаціях у дітей. Ібупрофен не тільки безпечний для дітей у стандартних дозуваннях, але також є набагато безпечнішим під час випадкового або навмисного передозування порівняно з іншими анальгетиками, які можуть виявитися смертельними в разі неправильного застосування.
Таким чином, загальне співвідношення «користь — ризик» у разі застосування ібупрофену для контролю болю та лихоманки в дітей залишається позитивним.
