Objective — to determine the frequency of osteopenic syndrome using ultrasound densitometry (axial dimension) in children with various somatic pathologies with the aim of development of the methods of osteopenic state correction.

Patients and methods. A total of 625 children in the age from 2 to 17 years from different regions of Ukraine in outpatient conditions were under observation. Comprehensive survey included a questionnaire with the aim of the study the medical history and life, physical examination, ultrasound densitometry with the use of Sunlight MiniOmniTM. A comprehensive survey of 89 children with gastroduodenal pathology in age from 6 to 16 years who were under hospitalization was carried out.

Results. During the complex clinical-anamnestic survey in 179 children was found a chronic somatic pathology, and 535 children were apparently healthy. The osteopenic syndrome was diagnosed in 41.3% patients with chronic somatic pathology by ultrasound densitometry, and among apparently healthy — at 20.9%. Decreased bone density often observed in children with chronic gastroduodenitis.

Conclusions. Obtained data of examination point to the need for prevention of osteopenia in children with chronic somatic pathology for the prevention of osteoporotic changes in bone and also combined use of calcium and vitamin D.

Key words: osteopenic syndrome, children, ultrasound densitometry, prevention.
