The influence of diabetes on pregnancy, delivery and perinatal mortality

According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to 2014 extragenital pathology occupies 22.7% of maternal mortality. The endocrine pathology accounts for 6% of the extragenital pathology, about 1% of women of childbearing age have diabetes before pregnancy and 2–17% develop during pregnancy (gestational diabetes), it is predicted that till 2030 49.3% of women will have a gestational diabetes. 
 

Materials and Methods: A statistical analysis of the amount of cases of gestational diabetes in the Kyiv maternity house №5, studied the effect of the application of local clinical protocols on the frequency and timeliness of detection of gestational diabetes and a number of complications for the mother, fetus and newborn. The results of a local protocol provides timely screening, identifying, indications and contraindications for carrying of hospitalization (if it’s necessary) and the algorithm of care. It was found that compliance with the local protocol leads to the fact that the rate of complications for the mother, fetus and newborn from diabetes in the Kyiv maternity house №5 below the overall urban rate at 6%. 
 

Conclusion: consequently, diabetes is a disease that tends to a sharp increase in its frequency in the community and remains the most important perinatal extragenital pathology. 
Careful compliance with local clinical protocol reduces the incidence of complications in this pathology.
