Social work in palliative care model: functions and challenges

The complex nature of specialized palliative care is possible due to the involvement of social workers. They are expected not only to assess and solve social problems of a client, but also to help him overcome suffering, to work with the family to reduce the feeling of loss and address the psychosocial and socio-legal issues. Social workers should also be involved in arranging trainings, improving practice and policy. In Ukraine, the construction of multidisciplinary teams are held back by the low level of social work development and reluctance of doctors to work in multidisciplinary teams.
