Children and adolescents generally have had medical and social problems that very often require an integrated approach to their solution. In modern conditions, the organization of medical and social assistance for children is necessary direction of preventive work.
Objective: to analyse the main problems concerning the pediatricians' training on the issues of healthy lifestyle formation and providing health and social assistance to children and adolescents.
Material and methods. A questionnaire survey of 32 participants of the pre-certification training in the specialty «Pediatrics» was conducted. Among them there were 28 pediatricians of primary health care of children and 4 hospital-based pediatricians.
Results. The priority of practical activities is the formation of demands for healthy lifestyle; identification of children from a deprived background; diagnostics of post-traumatic stress disorders, rehabilitation of children with disabilities; medical and social support of children in the organization of primary medical and social care.
Conclusions. It is necessary to create departments (courses) of community pediatrics to optimize the professional training of primary care physicians. Priority orientations of postgraduate education must be the preparation of a «community-focused pediatrician». The curricula and syllabi for internship physicians and the cycles of thematic advanced training need to be revised and the duration of training concerning social pediatrics should be increased. Algorithms of medical and social support of children from social risk groups need to be develop while organizing the health and social care.
