Introduction. Leptin connection with main clasters of metabolic syndrome – arterial hypertension, fasting glucose and insuline, insulinresistance, lipid metabolism in overweight children and children with general obesity (WHO, 1998 classification) and children with abdomen obesity (International Diabetic Federation IDF, 2007 classification) was studied.
Patients and methods. 168 children from 9 to 18 years were examined, 3 groups were formed: 1-st group – 120 overweight and generally obese children, 2-nd group – 64 children with abdomen obesity, 3-rd group – 48 children with normal body mass.
Results. Leptin was closely connected with overweight, general and abdomen obesity, was sensitive regulator of lipid, carbohydrate metabolism and blood pressure in overweight and generally obese children, sympathetic activity in children with abdomen obesity.
Summary. Hyperleptinemia and leptin resistance are the main ethiological and pathogenic factors of metabolic syndrome development and progression. The overweight and general obesity also as the abdomen obesity must be considered the basis signs of metabolic syndrome due to their proatherogenic, diabetic and hypertensive influence on metabolic syndrome formation.
Key words: metabolic syndrome, clasters, leptin, children.
