The implementation of robot-assisted systems is a costly and gradual process, there are not many reported cases of robotic appendectomy in children. Therefore, studies describing the use of robot-assisted systems in the treatment of acute appendicitis are relevant.
Aim – to examine domestic and international experience with the use of robot-assisted systems in the treatment of acute appendicitis and to determine the future prospects for the application of robot-assisted systems in cases of acute appendicitis in children.
The development and implementation of robot-assisted systems in the treatment of acute appendicitis in pediatric practice were analyzed. Based on the study, the advantages and disadvantages of robot-assisted systems were identified. Our experience and the available global literature indicate that robot-assisted appendectomy has several advantages over laparoscopic appendectomy and has proven itself well. However, it has not yet become widely adopted due to the limited availability of equipment and its high cost. It is important to note the specific features of robotic equipment. At present, the main drawback of treating acute appendicitis and its complications using robot-assisted systems is the limited surgical space, which is due to the specific requirements for port placement and configuration (docking) and the need for miniaturized instruments.
Conclusions. An analysis reveals a positive trend in the medical community’s attitude toward the implementation of robotic systems into general practice. Although modern systems are becoming more affordable, their market cost and maintenance expenses remain a significant barrier to widespread adoption. Considering the rapid technological development of robot-assisted systems, there is a need for new studies aimed at establishing the indications and contraindications for the use of robot-assisted appendectomy in emergency surgery for children.
