Objective: to explore the significance of risk factors for preterm birth in different stages of gestation.

Material and methods. The article presents a retrospective analysis of 247 premature births. The first group consisted of 34 births in the period up to 33 weeks, the second group was represented by 213 births in the period 33–37 weeks. As a control group, we investigated 100 birth cases and neonatal development cases in term of 38–41 weeks.

Results. The article has shown the hierarchy of risk factors of preterm births at various stages of gestation. To determine the risks was carried out an estimation of 32 qualitative features. According to the results of the statistical analysis in order to reduce the dimensions were retained for further work nine statistically significant factors.

Conclusions. The hierarchy of the factors of premature births up to 33 weeks represented by uterine bleedings (χ2=69.32, p=0.00), infections of different etiology and localization (χ2=48.92, p=0.00) and cervical insufficiency (χ2=48.06, p=0.00). Premature births at term 33–37 weeks, most often accompanied by cervical insufficiency (χ2=111,29, p=0.00), uterine bleedings (χ2=86,48, p=0.00) and placental dysfunction (χ2=81.01, p=0.00).

Key words: prematurity, risk factors, gestational age.
