The objective: reveal the relationship of such pregnancy complication as placental dysfunction and use of various contraceptive methods, in particular, hormonal and intrauterine ones, by women prior pregnancy.
Patients and methods. The study was conducted via comparison of respective indexes in terms of three groups as for use (or not) of different contraceptive methods to prevent pregnancy. Group 1 (control) included women who had not used these contraceptive methods; Group 2 included those who had used hormonal contraception prior their pregnancy; and Group 3 included those who had used intrauterine contraception. We have analyzed gestation course, labor and postpartum period in women of these three groups; in particular, respective ultrasonic, laboratory, and histopathologic examinations have been carried out.
Results. These examinations have revealed certain disturbances in mother-placenta-fetus system, which underlie placental dysfunction. It has been determined that women who had used intrauterine contraception demonstrated a greater number of placental dysfunction events when compared to those who had used hormonal contraception.
Conclusion. Thus, the results obtained indicate to the fact that use of intrauterine contraceptive methods cause a higher future risk of such pregnancy pathology development as placental dysfunction.
Key words: placental dysfunction, intrauterine contraception, hormonal contraception, pregnancy, childbirth.
