Purpose — to establish of vitamin D sufficiency in children with recurrent bronchitis, and study the impact of 25(OH)D serum level on the immune system functioning.

Patients and methods. The study involved 120 children aged 4 to 10 years (mean age — 7 years 7 months), who were divided into two groups (60 children each): 1) children with recurrent bronchitis; 2) children, occasionally ill with upper respiratory tract infections.

Results. In 60 children with RB (100%) have a decrease 25(OH)D serum level less than 30 ng/mL (group 2 — in 25 (41.7%) children), (P<0.05). Indicators of the immune system in children with recurrent bronchitisshowed an increase of neutrophils phagocytic activity (P<0.05), the NST-test index (P<0.05), increase of CD16 (P<0.05), CD25 (P<0.05) in the blood, serum IgG (P<0.05) and IgM (P<0.05) due to lower of serum IgA (P<0.05) and saliva sIgA (P<0.05), the increase of serum IL-6 (P<0.05), TNF-a (P<0.05), IFN-g (P<0.05) and a decrease of IL-10 (P<0.05), that could negatively affect the condition of bone tissue in the form of strengthening bone resorption.

Conclusions. The decrease of 25(OH)D serum level in 100% of children with recurrent bronchitis describes the presence of vitamin D insufficient. This complex metabolic state has a direct (through the calcium-phosphorus metabolism) and indirect (via activation of immune mechanisms of bone resorption) negative impact on bone formation processes.
