Purpose — to retrospectively evaluate the course of labor and the state of newborns in women with prolonged and postpartum pregnancy in order to determine the significance of this pathology for perinatal consequences.
Patients and methods. In order to determine the risk groups of pregnant women to prolonged pregnancy we conducted a retrospective clinical and statistical analysis of 197 histories of pregnancy and childbirth of women who were treated and given delivery in the department of pathology of pregnancy and childbirth of «Тhe Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology named after academician A.M. Lukyanova NAMS of Ukraine» for the years 2011–2015. The course of labor and condition of newborns in women with prolonged and post-term pregnancy were studied. The main group consisted of 156 women. Of these, childbirth in 41 weeks — 110 (70%), 41–42 weeks — 33 (21%), in 42 weeks — 13 (9%). The control group consisted of 41 pregnant women who gave birth in a timely manner.
Results and conclusions. Women with prolonged and postnatal pregnancy considerably increase perinatal and obstetric risks. Late births lead to the need for surgical interventions in the course of their development, as well as to high neonatal morbidity and maternal traumatism. On the basis of the revealed complications it is necessary to form risk groups with respect to PO.
Key words: prolonged pregnancy, post-term pregnancy, fetal distress, birth traumatism.
