Etiopathogenic mechanisms of occurrence and development of chronic colostasis in children

Objective. To improve the methods of diagnosis of chronic colostasis in children based on a comprehensive evaluation of the clinical picture of the disease.


Patients and methods. The analysis of 150 case histories of children with constipation in the age from 3 months to 15 years who were under the treatment at the Children’s Clinical Hospital No1, Kyiv city is conducted. Patients were selected on the basis of a random sample upon the admission to the department. At admission all patients underwent a standard clinical and anamnestic examination, as well as a survey by a specially designed questionnaire with a view to more in-depth study of the problem.


Results. Among patients with constipation was observed prevalence of boys over girls by 1.4 times (58.7% and 41.3%, respectively); for boys was more characterized, complicated course of the disease. The most likely causes of chronic colostasis are transferred acute intestinal infections and other diseases accompanied by massive antibiotic therapy, anorectal disorders, errors in diet and unfavorable premorbid background.


Conclusions. Analysis of clinical and anamnestic data allowed to ensure in polyetiology of chronic colostasis in children and to identify risk factors for their development.
