This scientific review of domestic and foreign medical literature is devoted to the analysis of the problem of iron and zinc deficiencies and hypovitaminosis of B vitamins among schoolchildren. Medical and social issues of iron deficiency among children are analyzed. Authors conclude that this problem increasingly affects schoolchildren, particularly adolescents. Article provides analysis of the main clinical 'masks' of the latent iron deficiency, characterized by their relationship to other deficient syndromes, namely zinc deficiency and hypovitaminosis of B vitamins. This review focuses on the relationship of deficiency of iron, zinc, vitamins B1, B2, B6, and B9 with transient post-infectious secondary immunodeficiency conditions among the children of the school age. The problem of iron deficiency among teenage girls with hyperpolymenorrhea and the relationship of this condition with the further fertile function are given particular attention. Article contains analysis of ROTAFER PLUS — a medicine that is new to Ukrainian pharmaceutical market. This medicine contains iron (III)-hydroxide polymaltose complex of ferric iron (IPC Fe3+), zinc gluconate, vitamins В1. В6. В2 and В9. Availability of IPC Fe3+ in this dietary supplement, which is well tolerated by child's body, allows the use of this drug for several months and this is very important in the treatment of iron deficiencies, especially the latent ones, among adolescents.
Using of ROTAFER PLUS is suitable for monthly maintenance ferrotherapy aimed at preventing normal iron levels in teenage girls suffering from hyperpolymenorrhea.
Key words: iron and zinc deficiencies, ferrotherapy, children, adolescents.
