This article shows the importance of placental dysfunction among obstetric and perinatal pathology. The influence of concomitant diseases and pregnancy complication on utero-placental and feto-placental blood flow followed by inevitable morphological changes in placenta has been demonstrated.

The most significant risk factors of placental dysfunction were chronic salpingoophoritis, iron deficient anemia and hypertensive disorders. In the cohort of pregnant women with high risk of placental dysfunction morphological features of placenta has been studied. Placental pathology reveals the development of compensative changes with their subsequent overloading and exhaustion.

In a cohort of pregnant women with chronic salpingoophoritis and iron deficient anemia placental changes mostly represented by compensative and adoptive changes that can be classified as compensated placental dysfunction. In case of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy placental morphology corresponds to decompensated placental dysfunction.

This study demonstrates the high risk of placental dysfunction in a cohort of pregnant women with chronic salpingoophoritis, iron deficient anemia and hypertensive disorders. Our results indicate the need of timely risk factors identification. As soon as risk factors of placental dysfunction have been found preventive measures may ensure uneventful pregnancy course and delivery of healthy newborn.

Key words: pregnancy, feto-placental complex, placental dysfunction, chronic salpingoophoritis, iron deficient anemia, hypertensive disorders.
