Amoxicillin/clavulanate in the clinical practice of pediatrician

Resistance to the antimicrobial preparations is a serious problem of the present medicine. As one of the effective methods of combating with microbial resistance is the combination of beta-lactam antibiotics with a beta-lactamase inhibitor. The first anti-β-lactamase agent was clavulanic acid obtained in the early 70-ies of XX century from the culture of the fungus Streptomyces clavuligerus. In 1972 year was found new antibacterial preparation amoxicillin from the penicillins group. The spectrum of its antimicrobial activity and the possibility of oral administration determined the choice for creation of a combined preparation – amoxicillin/clavulanate, which greatly expanded the scope of the preparation.

Key words: antibacterial preparations, microbial resistance, amoxicillin/clavulanate.
