The use of micronutrient complexes in pediatrics: the benefits and potential risks

The feasibility of multiple-micronutrient supplementation in pediatric practice is discussed in the article. It concerns the problems of the necessity of the balanced nutrition for the body of the child, the impact of its imbalance on the development of nutritional disorders and nutrition dependent diseases. The causes of high prevalence of micronutrient deficiency in the world today are analyzed in the article. The WHO national strategies for the prevention micronutrient deficiency and individual prophylactic methods are mentioned. Particular attention is paid to the feasibility and safety of complexes of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), the criteria for their prescribing for children of different ages and with different functional activity of the body.
