Purpose: to explore the clinical efficacy of desloratadine syrup (Lourdes) among children with an acute urticaria.
Patients and methods: there were observed 32 children with an acute urticaria aged 3–14 years. All of them were appointed desloratadine syrup — Lourdes (Nobel Company) in the form of a syrup 2.5 mg/5 ml. Children aged 3–5 the dosage was — 2.5 ml (1.25 mg), 6–11 years — 5 ml (2.5 mg), from 12 years — 10 ml (5 mg) once a day. The criteria for the treatment effectiveness were the dynamic regression of an acute urticaria symptoms (number and size of wheals, itching intensity) by a score of symptoms. An urticaria severity was determined by the total score of the intensity of itching and the number of blisters. To assess Lourdes tolerability the study protocol included a record of all adverse events, data from 12-channel ECG and monitoring laboratory tests (hemogram, biochemical parameters of blood). The statistical processing of the research results carried out using the program IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0, Microsoft Office Excel 2010. The descriptive statistics presented with the figures of an arithmetic mean and the standard deviation — M±SD.
Results: it was found that the use of an antihistamine Lourdes promotes regression of the main clinical symptoms of an acute urticaria and cupping blisters and itching. The therapeutic effect of the drug Lourdes associated with an allergic and anti*inflammatory pharmacological effects. The positive dynamics of an urticarial rash (size and its numbers) was recorded from the first days of treatment among the majority (90.6%) children, the complete regression blistering reaction was observed on the 3rd day of the treatment among 12 (37.5%) patients children, the rest — on the 4–5 days of the treatment. The clinical and biochemical monitoring, ECG parameters during the treatment with an antihistamine Lourdes revealed no significant serious adverse reactions in the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, skin, indicating good tolerability.
Conclusions: thus, the clinical efficacy study on of Lourdes drug in the form of syrup among children with an acute urticaria indicates a high therapeutic efficacy and good tolerability. It can be recommended the very drug for an atopic diseases treatment among preschool and school age children.
Key words: an acute urticaria, children, Lourdes drug.
