Antileukotriene preparations in the treatment of allergic diseases in children

Purpose. To adjust the treatment of dermo_ respiratory syndrome (DRS) in children aged 2–5 years with the use of montelukast (antileukotriene preparation) to achieve clinical remission and as long as possible maintaining control of clinical manifestations of the disease. Patients and methods. A total of 225 children with DRS: I group — 75 children aged 2–3 years, II group — 145 children aged 3–5 years were under observation. Boys accounted for 53% (119 children), the girls — 47 % (106 children). All patients were observed in catamnesis of 1–3 years. In patients was collected data of allergic anamnesis, conducted an in-depth clinical and para-clinical examination, and were determined in serum total IgE and specific IgE to milk and other food allergens (by enzyme immunoassay ELISA).

Results. In examining children with DRS the use of montelukast along with basic therapy not only contributed to the positive short-term results (achieving clinical remission at the 7–10^th day of therapy) but also a long-term positive effect (extension of the period of clinical remission and reducing the number of relapses) in the setting of the reduction of total and specific IgE in serum.

Conclusions. In children with DRS must be corrected treatment by antileukotriene preparations for more quickly achieve clinical remission of the disease and its prevention of exacerbations.
