Objective. To study the efficacy and tolerance of BioGaia prescribed to immature low weight babies.
Materials and methods. The catamnesis contains the inquiry of parents and clinical and laboratory examinations of 34 immature low weight babies.
Results. It was proved that the condition of intestinal biocenosis is influenced by ante-, intra- and neonatal medical history. The most significant points are: pathological pregnancy (87%) and delivery (69%), early bottle-feeding (81%), necrotizing enterocolitis (25%). The microbiological study showed the reduction of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus accompanied with the increase of conditionally pathogenic and pathogenic bacteria. Prescription of BioGaia produced positive influence on the dynamics of clinical symptoms of intestinal microbiocenosis disorders, normalizing the coprogram and results of the bacteriological study of motions. Good tolerance of BioGaia and absence of side effects was proved.
Conclusions. Immature low weight infants are a vulnerable group which can suffer intestinal microbiocenosis disorders. Express efficacy, good tolerance and absence of side effects of BioGaia permits us to recommend it for the above infants who have problems with intestinal microbiocenosis.
Key words: probiotics, premature babies, intestinal dysbiosis.
