Aim – to evaluate the clinical efficacy and tolerability of the combined preparation Ascoril Expectorant in children with acute bronchitis.
Materials and methods. An open-label, prospective, observational ‘before-and-after’ study was conducted involving 50 children aged 4 to 12 years with acute bronchitis between January and March 2026. The frequency, intensity of coughing and volume of sputum were assessed using scoring scales by the doctor and the patients’ parents at screening and during the course of treatment (on days 3-4 and 8–10). Spirometry results were analysed for children over 6 years of age. Tolerability assessment included recording of all adverse effects, general clinical analyses, and 12-lead electrocardiography data.
Results. A statistically significant reduction in the frequency and intensity of coughing and a change in the nature of the cough to a productive one were observed on days 3-4 of treatment, with complete normalisation of auscultatory findings on days 8-10 of treatment, improvement in lung function parameters, and good tolerability of Ascoril Expectorant. Among adverse events, one episode of headache and mild tremor of the fingers was recorded in children of pubertal age.
Conclusions. The use of Ascoril Expectorant in children with acute bronchitis accompanied by frequent, unproductive cough is pathogenetically justified, leads to rapid regression of the disease and is well tolerated.
The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from the patients.
The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest.
