Purpose: determining the level 25(OH)D in the children blood serum with the bronchial asthma (BA) depending on the severity of the disease.

Patients and methods: there were 47 children with persistent BA: 11 (23.4±6.2%) patients with severe BA, 26 (55.3±7.3%) — of medium and 10 (21.3±6.0%) — mild. In the control group there were 60 healthy children who at the moment of examination had no allergic manifestations. The study was conducted in the autumn! winter period. The definition 25(OH)D was performed using the electro!chemiluminescence method. An assessment of vitamin D-status classification was made according to M.F. Holick.

Result: children with the persistent BA of the severe severity the median is 25(OH)D was 16.09 ng/mL among children with middle BA – 22.77 ng/ml, among children with mild BA — 32.92 ng/ml. When comparing the groups of children with varying degrees of severity BA among them were established a significant difference between the figures according to Friedman criteria (l2=27.298, р<0.05).

Conclusions: it was found a correlation between the severity of BA and the level of 25(OH)D in blood serum: the heavier is the disease occurs, the lower is the level of vitamin D. The obtained data showed the usefulness of including vitamin D preparations in the complex BD treatment, especially at serious current disease.

Key words: children, bronchial asthma, vitamin D, severity of the disease.
