Vascular endothelial state in children with allergic bronchial asthma

The aim of our study was to assess the state of the vascular endothelium in children with allergic asthma.

 

Materials and Methods. The study involved 224 childrenwithallergicasthma, aged 6 to 17 years. The leves of homocysteineandVEGF were determinedusingimmunoassay (ELISA)andperformedcarotidultrasonographyandultrasonographyof brachialarteriesusing machinePhilips HD11 XE.As a controlgroupwereexamined 40 healthychildrenwhounderwenttheentirespectrumofclinical, biochemicalandinstrumentalstudy.

 

Results. We have found that in children with allergic asthma, marked changes in the structure of vascular endothelium, which is manifested by thickening IMC (1.07±0.02 mm) compared with healthy children at 13.22% and is dependent on changes in the level of control: increases from 0.98±0.06 mm at a controlled — up to 1.1±0.03 mm with uncontrolled asthma variants. Accordance ultrasonographic indices homocysteine and VEGF on the development of endothelial dysfunction, manifested increasing their level to 13.09% and 22.49% respectively in the thickening IMC more than 1.3 mm.
