Vaccination during pregnancy (literature review)

Infectious diseases that can be prevented by timely vaccination are a cause of significant maternal, neonatal and infantile morbidity and mortality. Changes of the immune response in pregnant women, which occur in order to allow a woman to carry a baby to term, may interfere with the development of a specific immune response against pathogens. Besides its immediate maternal advantage, vaccination across pregnancy apparently directly impacts on the foetus and infants through the creation of passive immunity (placental transmission of antibodies formed by maternal vaccination).
