During last years, there has been a rapid accumulation of knowledge about thyroid disease and pregnancy. During pregnancy, thyroid disease ranks second among the endocrinopathies. Disorders of the thyroid gland are found in 0.2% of all pregnancies. Furthermore, they may occur in postpartum with a frequency up to 5-10%. In recent years, the prevalence of thyroid disease during pregnancy increases, which, of course, determines the state of physical and mental health of the younger generation, as found that even subclinical forms of thyroid pathology in the mother may very negatively affect the state of the fetus and newborn.
