Prevention of impaired homocysteine metabolism and folic acid deficiency: importance for reducing the incidence of perinatal and somatic complications in women

One of the most severe complications of pregnancy associated with hyperhomocysteinaemia is preeclampsia, which leads to an increasing maternal morbidity, mortality, preterm delivery and birth of children with foetal growth restriction. Adequate provision of essential vitamins and micronutrients, especially folic acid at a dose of 0.8 mg per day, at the stage of preconceptional care and in the first trimester helps to reduce the risks of gestational hypertension. To achieve a complex effect of preconception prevention in risk groups, a preparation containing exact amounts of vitamins and micronutrients should be used, since synergism between cobalamin, folic acid, vitamins B2 and B6 promotes the inclusion of these components in the maternal metabolism in the early stages of pregnancy, allows harmonizing the stage of choriogenesis and organogenesis, minimizes the imbalance of cellular metabolism to ensure the physiological pregnancy course and birth of a healthy child.
