The article presents the results of scientific studies concerning the inhibition of spontaneous contractile activity of the uterus in preterm births, which increases the chances for survival of the newborn.

Atosiban represents the first drug specifically designed to suppress labor. Comparing it with other drugs that have tokoliticheskoe action, it is shown that the effectiveness, safety and tolerability of atosiban not inferior but superior to them in the treatment of pregnant women with threatening preterm delivery.

Key words: atoziban, blocker of oxytocin receptors, premature birth.
