Objective. To study the efficacy and safety of «Meralis» preparation in the complex treatment of acute rhinitis in children.

Patients and methods. A total of 67 children in the age from 6 to 14 years with acute rhinitis were under observation. Patients of the first group (34 children) had received Meralis in complex therapy. The second group of patients (33 children) had received nasal decongestant based on phenylephrine. All patients underwent clinical examination, including bacterial swab test from the nasal mucosa; determined the local immunity of the nasal cavity — the content of lysozyme, immunoglobulins A, M, G, the concentration of secretory immunoglobulin A. The control group consisted of 20 apparently healthy children of the similar age.

Results. The study showed high efficacy of Meralis preparation that is clinically manifested in a more rapid elimination of symptoms of acute rhinitis. In the setting of the use of preparation there was marked rapid recovery of the local immunity — normalization of production of the major classes of immunoglobulins and lysozyme of nasal cavity mucosa. The expressed remedial effect from Meralisa towards the pathogenic microflora of the nasal mucosa is found.

Conclusions. Meralis is an effective and safe preparation, has local sanitizing and immunomodulating effects and can be recommended as a preparation of choice during the pathogenetic and symptomatic treatment of acute rhinitis in children.

Key words: acute rhinitis, children, therapeutic approaches, Meralis.
