The article presents the modern literature data on expediency of the early inflammatory marker detection in the intestinal contagious and noncontagious diseases. It is shown that acute intestinal infections continue to take a leading place among contagious diseases, especially in children. In order to provide correct diagnosis, determine the severity level of the inflammatory process in the intestinal mucous membrane, establish the aetiology of the disease and the localisation of lesion in acute intestinal infections, the faecal calprotectin may be used.

Key words: faecal calprotectin, gastrointestinal tract, inflammatory diseases, children.
