Clinical course of atopic dermatitis in children with polymorphism (R501H), (2282del4) in filaggrin gene

Purpose of the study.To study the effect of the filaggrin gene (FLG) mutations on disease characteristics and the skin parameters in children with atopic dermatitis (AD).


Materials and methods. 30 children with age from 3 to 11 years with AD were included in the study. Molecular genetic analysis was performed to identify the mutations of FLG together with the children clinical examination. The skin moisture was examined using corneometer method.


Results. Mutations in the gene filaggrin were detected in 43.29% of children. Direct correlation was proven between the presence of FLG mutations and reduction of skin moisture. Clinical signs of AD are distinguished by early onset and predominantly moderate severity of the disease.


Conclusions. Influence of identified FLG mutations on the dermatitis clinical course was proven, especially the relation to skin moisture indicators. It is necessary to take into account during creation of individual treatment schemes.
