Prevention of iodine deficiency disorders: what should know and can do a pediatrician and general practitioner? (Clinical practice guideline)

Iodine is an essential structural component of thyroid hormones, and its deficiency causes reduced thyroid hormonogenesis. Iodine deficiency has many negative effects on the human body, which are called iodine deficiency disorders. The high%risk group of iodine deficiency disorders includes children, adolescents, pregnant women and nursing mothers. The only permitted medication of individual and group prevention in Ukraine is the single entity tablets of potassium iodide with physiological iodine content.
